Reflection #11

Thanksgiving Weekend used to give me a chance to think about all of my students and why I was thankful for each of them. This is my first year without students and I don't get the daily interaction with the people I work with like I got with my students, so I'm afraid I don't know everyone as well as I would like at this point in the school year. I can say that I am definitely thankful for the teams I work with daily. The admin team has accepted me and let me attack my new position how I feel it should be done without any pushback, only support. I love the teams of teachers I work with and think the students are lucky to have them. I'm still feeling everything out, so specific thanks will have to wait until next year.
I am excited to go back to Millville on Tuesday for the NHS induction ceremony to see some of my former students. I don't think anything will ever compare to the feeling I got from seeing students succeed in my class. Although I'm sure I'll have a hand in a lot of student success, I don't think it will ever feel as good as it did as a teacher. I always said that I could reach more students as an administrator, but I don't know if I'll ever make the same type of connections...and I will miss that (I already do).
I'm excited to have serious pedagogical discussions over the next month with the STEM teachers and have found some great resources recently that I am excited to share. We have "desk audits" to go over the boring (yet important) part of being a teacher, then have mid-year reviews where we get to talk about everything involved in the greatest job in the world. I'm eager to share, but hope I don't miss anything too.
Finally, I had an awesome Thanksgiving...Dominick is the coolest kid in the world (at least my world) and my sister is possibly moving back to South Jersey soon, so things are good.
Thanks for reading,
Bobby
