Week 7 Reflection: Improvement

I have been in classrooms during a lesson over 250 times so far this year, so I think it's about time for me to move on from observing to helping. The biggest improvements I ever made as a teacher stemmed from discussions I had with people that observed me teach or from watching video of myself teaching. Unfortunately most teachers don't get student-teachers to question them or have the opportunity to record their lessons and analyze their work. I feel the most important part of my job is to give teachers an outsider's perspective on what is going on in their classroom. The best part about working with great teachers is that they embrace this and run with it. It's difficult to hear that something you put so much time and energy into wasn't as effective as you hoped, but the truly great teachers are willing to accept that it happens sometimes and work to get it perfect.
I don't have much else from this week. I did get to the beach one last time today and watched Dominick run around like a madman...I am going to miss that in a couple of years. Hopefully next week I'll have some concrete examples of helping teachers I work with improve.
