Week 8 Reflection: Efficiency

Over the last 2 weeks, I started to get a little frustrated with how I was using my time. I have been accomplishing everything I want to, but I feel like I'm wasting a lot of time during the school day and having to play catch up every night at home. I spent a lot of time researching how to maximize time as a teacher, but after being in that position so long, I was not mentally ready to accept dead time in my day, especially when I want to spend time with Dominick when I get home and the dead time is my fault. I was able to take a step back and make some changes to my routine and have been talking to other admin to see how they handle certain things, so I'm feeling a little better now.
Even though it's one more thing to do, I am excited to start tutoring Calculus. I feel like no matter how crazy my day was or how much I have on my plate, I can forget it all and go back to what I love doing for an hour or so every time I get to tutor. I do not regret my decision to leave the classroom, but I miss it everyday, especially when I go into classrooms and see teachers building relationships with their students. I have a really bright girl, maybe two now, to tutor once or twice a week in Calculus, which is by far my favorite subject to teach.
Next, I got to experience an awesome event Friday at the Creek. Our EDD teacher sets her students up with a group of 10 engineers 5 times throughout the year to help guide them through their year-long projects. The first one was Friday and lasted all day. Students circulated to each engineer to discuss their idea and plan and were given feedback by all 10 engineers. This was the first of 5 sessions that will guide the students through the engineering design process. This is not only great for the conceptual understanding that the students will gain, but they also have to overcome fears of failure while presenting their ideas to others in the field. This is an awesome event and I'm proud I could be a part of it, even if it was only as an observer.
Thanks for reading (if anyone did),
Bobby
