What's In My Desk Drawer?

Day 8 Prompt: What’s in your desk drawer, and what can you infer from those contents?

After watching a webinar from Erin Klein while considering the ClassroomCribs challenge, I decided to get rid of my teacher desk. I actually decided to get rid of everything unnecessary in my classroom. Once I got rid of anything I hadn't used in the past year, I was also able to get rid of all portable storage spaces. Two bookshelves, two file-folders, and several crates were put in the hallway and all I had left fit into the permanent storage on my shelves, in my closet, and in my teacher locker. This enabled me to put my computer table in the corner so I can take attendance, answer e-mail, and do my other professional responsibilities and gain much more space for the students and me to move around. I was even able to bring in a few foam chairs and create a little hangout area in the back corner of my room.

So I guess the short answer to the question is that I don't know what's in my desk drawer, because some other teacher is using it in their room now.

As for what can be inferred by this, I'm not totally sure. I think that it is a step towards turning ownership of the classroom over from mine to the students'. I would like it to be a place where they enjoy hanging out and are not intimidated by the math they are working on. Hopefully it will get there someday.
